Common Wedding Questions

Posted by Pamela Kazmierczak on 26 December 2009

When people begin to plan their wedding they tend to have many questions. Even if the initial questions are answered more seem to pop up throughout the planning process. This is normal. Here are some answers to some of the more common questions.

When should we make the guest list? As soon as possible! The guest list can determine many things such as how large the wedding is and how large the reception is (which also determines pricing). People who will not be invited to the wedding should not be invited to engagement parties or receive engagement announcements. So it is imperative to handle the guest list as soon as you can.

When should the ceremony and reception locations be reserved? This is also something that should be taken care of right away. The reception and ceremony sites have a direct role into what the wedding is like. They help set the tone and mood of the entire day. Because of this, it is very important to make these choices early on.

Should I have a themed wedding? Of course only you can answer this question. Although it is important to note that there are many more themed weddings each year than ever before. You can easily decorate a wedding to just about any theme and your theme can be overt or it can be subtle. Even weddings which do not seem to have a theme have decorations that feature themes. For instance a bride may choose to have butterflies on her wedding cake, napkins and on her favors.

When should we order the wedding cake? The wedding cake should be ordered two to four months before the wedding date, however there is no reason you cannot start shopping sooner. If you have a particular bakery that you want to order from you may want to contact them as soon as possible to find out how long in advance they are booked. If you do not have a certain bakery which you want to order from you should shop around and participate in both taste testing as well as comparing the styles of the cakes available. You want a cake which tastes good and looks great in photos!

When should we order the stationery? It is a good idea to order the wedding invitations and other stationery four to six months ahead of time. However, you might want to look into this a bit earlier if you are planning on ordering handmade invitations or specially designed invitations.

When does the florist need to be booked? The florist is another vendor which should be chosen and hired as soon as possible. I recommend at least 6 months prior to the wedding. This is especially true if you are getting married in wedding season as there will be many wedding parties that need the services of the florists, as well as any other services they may provide.

When should the favors be ordered? The wedding favors are usually ordered about six months prior to the wedding. Before you order them you should make sure you have an accurate guest count and are set in your wedding colors and or theme. You are going to want to order a few extra favors for yourself as keepsakes and you are probably going to want to incorporate your wedding colors or wedding theme directly into the design of the favors.
